Hyundai is branching their N division into hot hatch SUVs which was originally only reserved for hatches and sedans. This will make their SUVs very interesting, and fast.
With Hyundai putting their ‘hot’ i30 N drivetrain now into a ‘sexy’ SUV, They’re promising some real ‘N’ appeal while also a higher riding vehicle. What’s there really not to love?
While the Hyundai Kona N may not be the first sporty SUV, it’s certainly going to be one of the more affordable offerings. We’ve seen Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Porsche and Lamborghini offer something similar. The only real comparison would be the Volkswagen Tiguan R.
What others think of the Hyundai Kona N
Let’s see what other reviewers have to say about the 2022 Hyundai Kona N
Drive wants to view this car not as a hot hatch SUV but as a high-riding hot hatch, The difference? We don’t know. This car is aimed at someone looking for a bit more fun but also being practical. However they’re missing some what we think are essentials such as front parking sensors and speed sign recognition.
This vehicle may just open the doors for a new vehicle category.
- Great turbo engine and gearbox
- Good tyres, brakes and solid handling
- High driving position
- No rear air vents
- May confuse other people
- Styling may not be for everyone
While having the SUV label, The Hyundai Kona N isn’t as practical as a ‘typical’ SUV in terms of passenger space or luggage volume. While also not offering AWD, The Kona N only offers FWD.
This vehicle offers unrivalled balance of performance, features and value at this price segment. Which makes for an exciting time for Hyundai. We expect to see a few on the road soon.
- It’s fast
- Good value vehicle
- Tight backseat and boot
- Cheap plastics and tyre roar dull refinement
- Still isn’t a i30 N on the track
Our final thoughts
Are you after something that’s sexy, sporty and practical? You’d find it all pressed to find something quite like the Hyundai Kona N on the market at this price range. Offering performance that’s unmatched in this segment while also being high riding. We expect these vehicles will be popular among drivers.
