The Lada Niva, a rugged off-roader that has been in production since 1977, is receiving some modern updates for the 2024 model year. The most notable addition is LED daytime running lights, a feature that became common on many vehicles in the early 2000s.
Other updates include:
- Anti-lock brakes (ABS)
- A backlit instrument cluster
- Cruise control
- A trip computer
The Niva's 1.7-liter four-cylinder petrol engine has been updated to meet Euro 5 emissions standards, which were introduced in 2009. These updates have increased the starting price of the Niva Legend from 829,900 rubles (approximately $9,100) to 927,500 rubles (about $10,200).
The more modern Niva Travel model also receives similar updates and sees a price increase from 1,198,900 rubles ($13,200) to 1,215,000 rubles ($13,400). These updates mark a significant step forward for the Niva, which had previously been built to Euro 2 emissions standards from 1996.
While these features are considered basic by modern standards, they represent a notable improvement and significant modernization for this enduring Russian classic, which has maintained much of its original design for over four decades.
