Summary
The 2025 Deepal S07 is the launch vehicle for this new Chinese EV brand in Australia, aiming to poach sales from the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV5.
While it offers a spacious cabin, a big touchscreen, and plenty of standard equipment, it’s arguably too similar to Tesla’s formula, lacking unique points of difference.
If you can tolerate the occasionally clumsy tech interface and intrusive driver assists, the S07’s comfortable seats and quiet cruising manner will likely please. But in a booming mid-sized EV market, Deepal’s newcomer struggles to truly stand out.

Drawing heavy inspiration from Tesla, the S07’s interior is dominated by a large 15.6-inch touchscreen and minimal physical controls. Seats are heated and ventilated up front, with power adjustment and a driver’s seat memory system.
The AR head-up display is a highlight, with crisp readouts for speed, safety alerts, and navigation data. Extra flourishes like the rotating infotainment screen and driver camera might feel more gimmicky than beneficial, while the myriad driver assist icons can be daunting for first-time users.
Engine & Fuel Economy
A single 160kW/320Nm rear motor draws energy from an 80kWh battery (usable 79.97kWh). Deepal claims a 475km WLTP range, with DC charging up to 92kW – slower than many segment rivals.
Official consumption is 18.6kWh/100km, but we found around 15.6kWh/100km in mixed driving over ~850km, albeit partially from the previous user’s data. Charging from 30–80 per cent reportedly takes 35 minutes at a 90kW+ DC station, while AC charging is capped at 11kW.

Safety Rating
The S07 is unrated by ANCAP, but holds a five-star rating under Euro NCAP.
Features include AEB, lane-keep assist, lane centring, blind-spot monitoring, driver monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and front/rear parking sensors.
Its driver assistance calibration can be intrusive, overshadowing the robust hardware package.
ECO Rating
No Green NCAP or other efficiency rating is yet available for the S07. We’ll update once any official testing emerges.
Reliability Rating
As a brand-new player with no known recalls, the S07 is unproven in the Australian market.
An eight-year/240,000km battery warranty plus seven-year/160,000km vehicle cover adds some confidence, but real-world longevity is to be determined.
Cost of Ownership
Deepal’s servicing structure is unusual for an EV, with a six-month/5000km check, followed by scheduled maintenance every 12 months or 10,000km – more frequent than some rivals.
Over 8 visits across 90 months, total costs top $2984, which is high compared to mainstream EV servicing.
Owners do get 12 months’ complimentary roadside assistance, and a partnership with Evie includes free one-year charging subscription.

Conclusion
The 2025 Deepal S07 introduces a new Chinese nameplate with all the modern trimmings, an extensive feature list, and a polished highway ride.
Yet, for a brand aiming to dethrone Tesla, it’s too derivative, and the intrusive safety software plus complicated infotainment hamper day-to-day ease.
The S07’s price advantage is lessened by routine servicing costs, leaving prospective buyers to weigh how important that big touchscreen, unique design, and comfortable seats are versus more refined alternatives like the Kia EV5 or Tesla Model Y.
