Mazda has revealed its latest electric vehicle, the 6e, designed for the European and UK markets as a spiritual successor to the long-running Mazda 6 mid-size sedan. Debuting at the Brussels motor show in Belgium, the 2025 Mazda 6e is set to go on sale in Europe during the summer months of June to August.
Powertrain and Performance
The Mazda 6e will be offered with two battery options:
- 68.8kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery

Both versions feature a single electric motor powering the rear axle, delivering approximately 180kW of power and 320Nm of torque. The performance figures are impressive:
- 0-100km/h acceleration: 7.6 seconds (68.8kWh battery), 7.8 seconds (80kWh battery)
- Driving range: 479km to 552km (depending on the battery variant)
Charging Capabilities
The 6e boasts impressive charging speeds:
- 200kW DC charging capacity for both battery variants
- 10-80% charge time: 22 minutes (68.8kWh battery), 45 minutes (80kWh battery)
Dimensions and Design
The Mazda 6e measures 4921mm long, 1890mm wide, and 1491mm tall, making it slightly larger than its combustion-powered predecessor:
- 56mm longer
- 50mm wider
- 41mm taller than the existing Mazda 6 sedan
Global Availability
While the 6e is confirmed for European markets, its availability in other regions remains uncertain:
- UK launch scheduled for 2026
- Australian plans yet to be confirmed
Mazda Australia has issued a statement: "Mazda 6e has been developed for the European market. It is under study for overseas markets".
Market Positioning
The Mazda 6e is positioned to compete with other electric sedans in the market, including:
- Tesla Model 3
- Polestar 2
- BYD Seal
- BMW i4
- Upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA EV
The unveiling of the Mazda 6e marks a significant step in Mazda's electrification journey, offering a sleek and powerful alternative in the growing electric sedan market. While its European debut is confirmed, the potential for an Australian launch remains an intriguing prospect.
As Mazda continues to expand its electric vehicle lineup, the 6e stands as a testament to the brand's commitment to combining its signature driving dynamics with sustainable technology. Whether this electric successor to the beloved Mazda 6 will grace Australian shores remains to be seen, but its arrival would undoubtedly shake up the local EV market and provide a compelling option for those seeking a blend of style, performance, and eco-friendliness in their next vehicle.
