The upcoming 2025 Mitsubishi Triton lineup is set to expand with the addition of a new mid-spec variant, the GLX-R. This information comes from a dealer leak, suggesting that Mitsubishi is reviving the GLX-R nameplate for its latest generation Triton ute.
The GLX-R will slot between the GLX+ and GLS variants in the Triton range. It will be based on the GLX+ but gain some features from higher-spec models.
Equipment upgrades include:
- Standard-duty rear suspension (replacing the GLX+'s heavy-duty setup)
- Super Select 4WD II system
- Highway terrain Maxxis tyres
- Black sports bar and 18-inch alloy wheels from the flagship GSR
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel
- Carpet flooring
The GLX-R will be powered by the same 2.4-litre bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine as other Triton variants, producing 150kW of power and 470Nm of torque.
A six-speed automatic transmission will be standard, as no manual option is currently available for the Triton in Australia.
Pricing for the GLX-R has not been confirmed yet, but it's expected to sit between the GLX+ (starting at $53,290) and the GLS (starting at $59,090).
Mitsubishi Australia has not officially commented on the new variant, stating they are "not in a position to comment on any future product plans until they are confirmed."
The addition of the GLX-R variant suggests Mitsubishi is looking to offer more choice in the competitive ute market, potentially appealing to buyers who want additional features without stepping up to the higher-spec GLS or GSR models. All Mitsubishi Tritons come with a 10-year, 200,000km warranty when serviced through Mitsubishi dealers, which remains a strong selling point for the brand in the Australian market.
