Australia's cheapest PHEV gets even more affordable with massive price cut
MG slashes $4000 off its HS Plus EV plug-in hybrid SUV, making it Australia's most affordable PHEV at $42,990 drive-away. This permanent price cut significantly undercuts competitors and continues the trend of falling EV and PHEV prices in the Australian market.
In a bold move that's set to disrupt the Australian plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) market, MG has announced a substantial $4000 price reduction on its HS Plus EV SUV. This aggressive pricing strategy has catapulted the MG HS Plus EV to the top of the affordability chart, making it Australia's cheapest PHEV option.
The entry-level HS Plus EV Excite now carries a drive-away price of just $42,990, while the higher-spec Essence variant is available for $46,990 drive-away. MG has confirmed that these price cuts are permanent, not just a temporary promotion, signaling a long-term commitment to making electrified vehicles more accessible to Australian consumers.
Under the hood, the HS Plus EV combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, delivering a robust total system output of 189kW and 370Nm. It boasts an impressive electric-only range of up to 63km (NEDC cycle) and a miserly combined fuel consumption of 1.7L/100km.
Despite its newfound affordability, the HS Plus EV doesn't skimp on features. The base model comes equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a comprehensive suite of safety features. The Essence variant adds luxuries like a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, and leather upholstery.
This price reduction positions the MG HS Plus EV significantly below its closest PHEV competitors, such as the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV and Ford Escape PHEV, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape in this growing segment.
