Major Power Boost for US Ford Ranger Raptor Owners
Ford has stirred excitement amongst US Ranger Raptor owners with the introduction of a substantial power upgrade that comes with an unprecedented factory-backed warranty. The major leap in performance, achieved solely through changes in the engine’s software, makes the deal even more remarkable.
Bringing More Power to the Roads
Expanding its ring of performance, Ford has announced that Ranger Raptor owners can get their engine software upgraded at only $895. This upgrade is carried out by any Ford dealer and is under warranty throughout the Ranger Raptor’s three-year or 36,000-mile (57,936km) lifespan.
Although the engine hardware remains unchanged, the new tune accelerates the vehicle’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine from 302kW of power and 583Nm of torque to a brilliant 339kW and 727Nm. This power leap is drawn together with an enhancement to Ranger Raptor’s 10-speed transmission. This adjustment provides an optimised shift scheduled while delivering a refined throttle response.
Tune not coming to Australia
Regrettably, Ford Australia confirmed that the tune won’t be rolled out there, at least not as a standalone upgrade.
The performance ute in Australian versions endures diminished power compared to their North American counterparts. The local Raptors output is around 292kW, which is 10kW less than those available in the US.
On the flip side, the Ford specialist Herrod Performance offers a local comprehensive upgrade package which includes a power and torque bump that covers the extra strain on the Ranger Raptor’s components due to the increased outputs.
Performance Pack on the Horizon
This “Power Pack”, available at $6480 with installation, includes a larger intercooler, transmission oil cooler, and a revised engine tune. Unlike some companies that use ‘piggyback’ engine control units (ECUs), Herrod’s longstanding relationship with Ford has paved a direct path to the engine’s brain.
Rangers Raptors equipped with the Power Pack are clearly superior to those with the US-market performance upgrade. The pack boosts output to 380kW of power and 780Nm of torque – a massive increase of 88kW and 197nm from the standard specs. This makes it suitable for 91 octane or higher unleaded petrol.

Despite the apparent extra costs, the relationship between Herrod Performance and Ford allows the Ranger Raptors fitted with the Power Pack to maintain their existing five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty. This also applies to the parts used by Herrod.
