Ferrari has officially confirmed the launch date of its first-ever electric vehicle (EV), with the highly anticipated model set to be unveiled on October 9 at the brand’s headquarters in Maranello, Italy. This landmark vehicle will mark Ferrari’s entry into the EV market while continuing to offer its signature V6, V8, and V12 combustion engine options.
Ferrari's EV Strategy and Sales Projections
While Ferrari has been secretive about the specifics of its electric supercar, the company previously announced that EVs will make up five per cent of its annual sales by 2026. Based on 2024 sales figures, this equates to an expected 700 to 800 units sold next year.
A Soundtrack for the Electric Era?
Spy footage from Ferrari’s Maranello factory suggests that the upcoming Ferrari EV may feature synthetic engine sounds to enhance the driving experience. One prototype reportedly emitted a low-pitched V8 rumble from a simulated exhaust, reminiscent of how brands like Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N have integrated artificial sounds into their battery-powered performance cars.
Emanuele Carando, Ferrari’s global marketing director, reinforced the brand’s commitment to driving excitement:
“Driving thrills are the most important thing within our portfolio, and we measure driving thrills in two ways. The easiest way is the smile the clients have whenever they drive our car and get out of the car. [This is] the best indication of how fun it is to drive the car.
But there is a more scientific approach, which is longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration, braking, gear shifting, and sound. Those five elements are the most important elements we evaluate and we build together to develop our cars.”
A New Ferrari Body Style
In addition to the shift toward electric power, Ferrari’s first EV is expected to introduce a new body style that blends elements of a hatchback and a shooting brake. It will also feature four doors, making it the second Ferrari model—after the Purosangue SUV, to cater to buyers seeking a more practical, family-friendly option.
Ferrari’s Growing Electrified Lineup
Although this will be Ferrari’s first fully electric vehicle, it will join an expanding lineup of hybrid models, including the 296 GTB/GTS and the SF90 Stradale. With this latest development, Ferrari aims to maintain its reputation for high-performance innovation while embracing electrification in a way that stays true to its DNA.
The unveiling on October 9 is expected to shed light on the car’s performance, range, design, and technological advancements. As Ferrari enters the EV market, enthusiasts and industry experts alike will be watching closely to see whether the Prancing Horse can redefine electric driving excitement.
