Geely is ensuring its namesake brand's comeback to Australia is a smooth ride, literally. The Chinese automaker has invested in extensive local testing and development to tailor the EX5 electric SUV to Australian conditions, focusing on suspension tuning and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

Suspension Tweaked for Aussie Roads

Recognizing Australia's unique road challenges – coarse-chip surfaces, undulating highways, and speed bump-laden suburban streets – Geely's Chinese HQ collaborated with its Australian counterparts to refine the EX5's suspension.

The result is a revised tune for the MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension aimed at delivering a smoother ride over rough surfaces, improved stability on long journeys, and the durability to handle varying loads."We wanted to ensure the car offered a great experience for Australians and these adjustments will deliver a smoother ride over rough surfaces, improved stability for long-distance journeys, and the durability to handle variable loads – all while maintaining the comfort, confidence and reliability consumers expect," said Geely Auto Australia head Li Lei.

ADAS Calibrated for Local Conditions

Geely also conducted over 12 months of testing and benchmarking of the EX5's ADAS features through a third party. This included fine-tuning systems like lane-keep assist, driver attention monitoring, and traffic sign recognition to accurately function in the Australian environment.

Competitive Pricing and Feature-Packed Offering

Geely aims to price the EX5 competitively in the $49,000-$55,000 range, putting it up against rivals like the Tesla Model Y, Leapmotor C10, Deepal S07, and Xpeng G6. The EX5, almost identical in length to a Toyota RAV4 but wider with a longer wheelbase, will be available in two trim levels, both powered by a 160kW/320Nm front-mounted electric motor and a 60.2kWh LFP battery.
