Incident Details

Queensland Police allege the woman, along with her 45-year-old male passenger from Carbrook, was under the influence of Gamma Hydroxybutyrate (GHB), a dangerous illicit substance, when located on Toronto Road around 9:15am.

Despite advice from emergency services, the pair reportedly resumed driving before being intercepted and arrested by Capalaba police on Camrose Road.

Charges and Court Appearance

The driver has been charged with:

  • One count of driving under the influence
  • One count of driving without a licence

She is scheduled to appear before the Cleveland Magistrates Court on May 12. Her passenger was issued a drug diversion notice for possession of dangerous drugs and improper disposal of a needle.

Police Statement on Road Safety

Capalaba Station Officer in Charge, Senior Sergeant David Candale, emphasised the dangers posed by impaired driving, especially during high-traffic periods like Easter.

"Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a major cause of fatal and serious traffic crashes," said Senior Sergeant Candale.

"Easter is one of our busiest times on the roads, and police are increasing roadside breath and drug testing to help keep all road users safe."

Road Toll Update

As of April 11, 10 lives have been lost on Brisbane roads in 2025. Alarmingly, nine of these fatalities occurred in Brisbane's south, marking a rise of four compared to the same period last year.

Queensland Police urge motorists to remember the Fatal Five driving behaviours that lead to the majority of serious crashes:

  • Speeding
  • Drink and drug driving
  • Not wearing seatbelts
  • Driving while fatigued
  • Driving while distracted
