Kia EV3 GT Will Be Fast, But Not That Fast

Kia has confirmed the development of a high-performance EV3 GT, featuring dual motors and all-wheel drive. While it promises improved performance over the standard EV3, with a 0-100km/h time of around 5.5 seconds, it won't match the blistering pace of its larger sibling, the EV6 GT.

Kia EV3 GT Will Be Fast, But Not That Fast

The Kia EV3 GT is confirmed to be in development as a high-performance version of the standard EV3. It will feature a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup, unlike the single-motor front-wheel drive configuration of the standard EV3.

The EV3 GT is expected to have a 0-100km/h acceleration time of around 5.5 seconds. This performance puts it in line with competitors like the Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Performance, but it's not as quick as some might have expected.

For comparison, the larger Kia EV6 GT can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds. The EV3 GT is likely to use the same 81.4kWh battery as the long-range version of the standard EV3.

Here are some of the things to note for Kia EV3 GT:

Kia EV3 GT Will Be Fast, But Not That Fast

Powertrain:

  • Dual-motor setup providing all-wheel drive
  • Expected to use the same 81.4 kWh battery as the long-range version of the standard EV3

Performance:

  • 0-100 km/h acceleration time of around 5.5 seconds
  • This is slower than the larger Kia EV6 GT, which can do 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds

Design:

  • More aggressive bumper design compared to the standard EV3
  • Likely to use 19-inch tires, compared to 17-inch on the standard model

Positioning:

  • Will be part of Kia's high-performance EV lineup, alongside the EV6 GT and upcoming EV9 GT

Top Speed:

  • While not specifically mentioned for the GT version, the standard EV3 has a top speed of 170 km/h (105.6 mph)

Battery and Charging:

  • Unlike the EV6 GT, the EV3 GT is expected to use a 400-volt architecture
  • Charging from 10-80% is estimated to take approximately 31 minutes

It's important to note that as the EV3 GT is still in development, some of these specifications may change before the official release. Kia has not yet released complete details about the GT variant's power output or other specific features that will differentiate it from the standard EV3.

Kia's domestic product manager, Ha-Jun Seo, hinted at a possible release date in the latter half of 2025. The GT variant is expected to have some design modifications, including a more aggressive bumper and potentially larger wheels. This model will expand Kia's high-performance EV lineup, joining the EV6 GT and upcoming EV9 GT.
