Mahindra Thar Roxx: The Practical Off-Roader You’ve Been Waiting For
Get ready, off-road enthusiasts! Mahindra has just unveiled a more versatile version of its Jeep Wrangler-esque Thar, and it’s called the Mahindra Thar Roxx. This new model is designed to be as rugged as ever but with added practicality for everyday use.
More Seats, More Fun
The Thar Roxx boasts a longer wheelbase and a pair of extra doors, making room for five passengers. Perfect for those family adventures or trips with friends! Starting at just 12.99 Lakh (around A$23,000), this beauty goes on sale in India this October.
As a Mahindra spokesperson eloquently put it, “Our primary focus in the immediate future is on meeting the robust demand for the Thar Roxx within the India market.” While there’s significant international interest, Mahindra is keeping its cards close to its chest regarding global availability.
Built on the Innovative M_Glyde Platform
The Thar Roxx is built on Mahindra’s new M_Glyde platform, promising a blend of “refined urban sophistication” and “unparalleled, tech-enabled off-road capabilities.” With independent double-wishbone suspension upfront and a live axle with Watt’s linkage at the back, the Thar Roxx is ready to tackle any terrain.
Rear-wheel drive comes standard, but for those who crave more control in challenging conditions, a part-time four-wheel drive system is available.

The Thar Roxx retains its iconic look with round headlights, a boxy body, and a side-hinged split rear tailgate complete with an externally mounted spare wheel. Its LED headlights and tail lights ensure you’ll see and be seen, no matter where your adventures take you.
Tech-Savvy Interior
Step inside, and you’ll find a tech-laden cabin featuring a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a matching infotainment touchscreen. With wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus integrated Amazon Alexa, staying connected has never been easier.
Add to that a wireless phone charger, Harman Kardon sound system, panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats, and you’ve got a vehicle that’s as comfortable as it is capable.
Safety First
Safety hasn’t been overlooked either. The Thar Roxx comes equipped with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot view monitor, and a surround-view camera, among other advanced safety features.
Will It Come to Australia?
Though Mahindra initially planned to bring the Thar to Australia, legal battles with Jeep Australia’s parent company over design trademarks have put those plans on hold. However, Mahindra hasn’t ruled out the possibility of introducing a redesigned Thar Down Under in the future.
For now, the focus remains on satisfying the Indian market’s demand. Stay tuned for updates!
