CATL, the world's largest EV battery manufacturer, has unveiled a new battery technology called Shenxing. The Shenxing battery can provide up to 400km (248 miles) of range with just a 10-minute charge.

This new battery is claimed to be the world's first 4C superfast charging LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery. It can charge from 0-80% in just 15 minutes, which is significantly faster than current LFP batteries. Shenxing is CATL's superfast charging LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery technology.

Key features:

  • Can deliver 400 km (248 miles) of driving range with a 10-minute charge
  • Over 700 km (435 miles) range on a full charge
  • 4C superfast charging capability (0-80% in 15 minutes)
  • Maintains over 80% capacity after 3000 charge cycles

Shenxing PLUS:

  • An upgraded version introduced at Auto China 2024
  • Achieves over 1,000 km (621 miles) range
  • 205 Wh/kg energy density
  • Can deliver 600 km (372.8 miles) range with 10 minutes of charging

This technology represents a significant advancement in LFP battery performance, potentially addressing concerns about charging times and range for electric vehicles. The Shenxing battery uses LFP chemistry, which is generally cheaper and safer than other lithium-ion chemistries, but typically offers lower energy density.

CATL's breakthrough addresses the energy density limitations of LFP batteries while maintaining their cost and safety advantages. The Shenxing battery could revolutionize EV charging times and range capabilities when it reaches production vehicles this year.
