Nissan Australia has issued a recall for over 11,000 petrol-powered Qashqai vehicles due to a potential fire hazard caused by a wiring harness defect.
Issue and Affected Vehicles
The recall impacts 11,107 units of the 2022-2024 Nissan J12 Qashqai, with a manufacturing defect in the wiring harness near the 12-volt battery. According to Nissan, the harness retaining nut may not have been properly secured during assembly, increasing electrical resistance and posing a fire risk.
Potential Hazards
If the retaining nut becomes loose, the increased resistance could lead to overheating and, in extreme cases, a vehicle fire. Nissan has warned that such incidents could result in serious injuries, fatalities, or damage to property.
Recall and Repair Process
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Nissan Australia and advised to schedule an appointment at their nearest dealership. The necessary repairs, which involve tightening the wiring harness connections to the correct specifications, will be carried out free of charge.
