The NSW Government has marked a key milestone in the delivery of one of its largest infrastructure projects, with 14 kilometres of the toll-free M12 Motorway now completed. The new motorway will connect Western Sydney International Airport to the broader Sydney road network and is on track for full completion in 2026.

The nearly finished stretch runs from The Northern Road to Elizabeth Drive near Cecil Park, with final linking works to the M7 Motorway now underway. When completed, the entire 16-kilometre corridor will significantly ease congestion, reduce travel times, and improve access to the new airport and surrounding developments.
On Budget and On Time
With construction progressing on schedule and within its $2.1 billion budget, the M12 has already achieved:
- 117,000 cubic metres of road concrete used
- 3 million cubic metres of earthworks completed
- 8,223 workers employed, including 5,472 local workers
- 867,509 trees, shrubs, and grasses planted
- 2,320 bridge metres and 637 bridge girders installed
The central and western sections of the M12 were completed by Seymour Whyte and the CPB Georgiou Group JV, while work on the eastern connection to the M7 continues at pace. New alignments such as Wallgrove Road at Cecil Hills are already open to motorists to support future interchange ramps.
Strategic Connections for Western Sydney
The M12 Motorway forms part of a broader network of road and rail investments supporting the new Western Sydney International Airport, due to open for freight in 2026.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure Catherine King said:
"We’re building Australia’s future by delivering the road and rail connections this new Airport needs to connect it to Western Sydney and beyond."
NSW Deputy Premier Prue Car added:
"The M12 Motorway will be a game-changer for Western Sydney residents – a vital, toll-free link that will ease congestion, improve travel times, and connect our local community without adding to household costs."
A New Era for Sydney’s West
NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey said the progress in the region reflects targeted investment:
"Just three years ago, around us were just fields. In that time a new airport has emerged from the cow paddocks, a new motorway nearing completion, and a Metro is connecting the region."
Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison highlighted the long-term traffic benefits:
"Once opened next year, this road is expected to carry up to 30,000 vehicles a day. These are vehicles we are taking off local roads by providing a quality free alternative."

Local Impact
Local MPs emphasised the significance of this investment:
Anne Stanley, Member for Werriwa:
"The M12 will provide a toll-free east to west connection from the M7 to the new Airport."
Nathan Hagarty, Member for Leppington:
"This is all part of ensuring communities like Leppington have easier access to the jobs and opportunities the new airport will bring."
The M12 Motorway is set to be a backbone of Sydney’s future transport infrastructure, supporting Western Sydney's growth with accessible, toll-free road connections to jobs, the airport, and beyond.
