A 19-year-old Provisional (P2) driver has found themselves at the center of controversy after being caught speeding 62km/h over the limit, overtaking dangerously, and testing positive for cannabis in Greystanes, NSW.

On Friday, January 3, 2025, at approximately 5:40 PM, Cumberland Highway Patrol officers were conducting speed enforcement on Brighton Street in Greystanes when they observed a white Ford Ranger overtaking another vehicle by crossing onto the wrong side of the road.

The vehicle was clocked at an alarming 123 km/h in a 50 km/h zone before slightly slowing to 112 km/h as it returned to the correct side of the road.

Major Offences and Immediate Penalties

The driver was immediately stopped and subjected to a roadside drug test, which returned a positive result for cannabis. Officers also noted the use of Apple CarPlay, a feature prohibited for P2 drivers under NSW road rules.

As a result, the driver was issued multiple infringement notices:

  • Exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/h
  • Failing to keep left of dividing lines
  • Using a mobile phone as a P2 licence holder

These offences totaled $3,779 in fines and 14 demerit points, resulting in an immediate six-month licence suspension.
