Mazda has issued a recall for 7,870 examples of its CX-60 and CX-90 SUVs, including petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid variants, built between 2023 and 2024, due to software issues affecting critical driving functions.
Affected Models:
- 5,331 petrol and diesel mild-hybrid CX-60 and CX-90 vehicles
- 2,539 plug-in hybrid CX-60 vehicles
Software Issues:
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) problems in petrol/diesel variants
- Dash Electronic Supply Unit (Dash-ESU) issues in all variants
Potential Malfunctions:
- Engine may not restart after idle stop
- Multiple warning messages in instrument cluster
- Failure of seat belt warnings
- 360° view camera malfunction
- Issues with EV drive mode (for hybrids)
Specific Diesel Variant Issues:
- Clutch engagement timing problems
- Potential engine restart failure
Safety Concerns:
- Increased risk of accidents due to loss of EV drive mode and safety systems
Recall Process:
- Owners will be contacted by Mazda Australia
- Free recalibration of PCM or Dash-ESU systems, or both, will be provided
