The Lockyer Valley Regional Council is calling for community patience as recovery efforts continue following the impacts of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, which brought widespread flooding and infrastructure damage across the region.

Damage Assessment Underway
Lockyer Valley Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan confirmed that Council crews are actively assessing damage across the road network and other public assets.
"I can assure residents we are doing everything to ensure the region is returned to normal as quickly as possible, however full recovery will take time," Cr Hagan said.
"Big weather events impact our roads, and, not surprisingly, we sustained considerable damage to infrastructure assets across the Lockyer Valley."
Prioritising Safety and Critical Access
Council has begun the process of systematically inspecting damaged roads and prioritising repairs based on safety and accessibility needs.
"Our teams are focusing first on restoring critical and immediate access needs," Cr Hagan said. "Once those are addressed, we will move on to unstable road conditions that could pose a risk to public safety."
General road maintenance and broader network restoration will follow as part of a staged recovery plan.

Why Full Repairs Take Time
Cr Hagan addressed public concerns about why roads aren’t fully repaired immediately.
"People often ask why we don’t just fix the roads straight away," he said. "Unfortunately, if we did that, we wouldn’t be eligible for disaster recovery funding and would have to significantly raise rates to cover the cost."
Community Cooperation Needed
While Council welcomes public reports of damaged infrastructure, the volume of customer requests has made it challenging to respond to each one individually.
"I can assure residents that every request lodged will be reviewed, prioritised and actioned accordingly," Cr Hagan said.
"Safety is our key focus, and we encourage everyone to be patient, apply caution and obey all road safety signage."
Residents are asked not to submit duplicate reports of the same issue, and to remain informed via official channels.
