The Crisafulli Government has officially kickstarted the design and pre-construction phase of the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project, a major infrastructure upgrade aimed at easing congestion and preparing South East Queensland for future growth, including the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This $5.7 billion rail initiative will expand the number of tracks between Kuraby and Beenleigh stations from two to four, significantly boosting service frequency and reliability for commuters travelling between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
What the Project Includes
The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project will not only duplicate the existing tracks but also:
- Remove key level crossings
- Upgrade multiple stations
- Improve pedestrian and commuter access
- Enhance overall connectivity along the 20km corridor
The project is a key part of the 2032 Delivery Plan and is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments. It aims to accommodate rising demand caused by rapid population growth and increasing travel between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Addressing Labor's Legacy
According to Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg, the project reflects the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to delivering critical transport infrastructure after what he described as years of Labor mismanagement. The cost of the project ballooned from an initial estimate of $2.6 billion to $5.7 billion under the previous government.
"We are getting on with the job of delivering more frequent, reliable and affordable public transport for the Gold Coast," said Minister Mickelberg.
"Entering into the design and pre-construction contract now will ensure this key infrastructure investment is completed ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games."
A Win for the Gold Coast
Member for Theodore Mark Boothman welcomed the announcement, highlighting the importance of this upgrade for his constituents.
"The Brisbane to Gold Coast line is already one of the busiest long-distance commutes, so being able to add more services will be of huge benefit to our communities here on the Gold Coast," said Mr Boothman.
"This is also a step forward to reducing the congestion on the M1."
The project is expected to not only support the Games but also leave a long-lasting legacy of improved transport infrastructure for the region.
