Train customers on the Gold Coast and Beenleigh lines are advised to plan ahead this Easter long weekend, with scheduled track closures set to affect services between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road.

When and Where

From Friday 18 April to Monday 21 April, all train services on the Gold Coast and Beenleigh lines will be suspended between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road. During this time, rail buses will operate, offering both express and all-stops options to help commuters reach their destinations.

Why the Closures Are Happening

The temporary closures are part of ongoing efforts to transform South East Queensland’s rail network, including work led by the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority. Multiple project crews have coordinated to perform essential upgrades efficiently across the same period, reducing long-term disruptions.

Key Projects Underway

Cross River Rail Support Works:

  • Yeerongpilly, Salisbury, Dutton Park and Clapham Yard:
    • Installation of concrete, formwork, and structural steel
    • Drainage improvements and earthworks

Gold Coast Line Expansion:

  • Pimpama, Hope Island and Merrimac Stations:
    • Excavation and foundation work
    • Concrete pours and installation of steel modules for new station platforms

These upgrades form part of broader improvements to deliver new, accessible stations and modern stabling yards, which will support a more reliable and efficient rail network into the future.

What Passengers Should Do

  • Check alternate transport options: Rail replacement buses will be running with both express and all-stop services.
  • Allow extra travel time: Delays are likely due to the change in service.
  • Plan ahead: Visit the official Queensland Rail or Cross River Rail websites for detailed service updates and rail bus timetables.

Services Resume

Train services will return to normal from first service on Tuesday 22 April 2025.

These works are part of a long-term vision to upgrade Queensland’s rail infrastructure and improve daily travel for thousands of commuters. Passengers are thanked for their patience and understanding during this essential work period.
