Mercedes-Maybach Unveils Its Sportiest Model Yet – The Splendid SL680

Mercedes-Maybach, the ultra-luxury arm of Mercedes-Benz, has pulled the curtains back on their latest masterpiece – the Mercedes-Maybach SL680. This opulent marvel, based on the Mercedes-AMG SL63, is being hailed as the ‘sportiest model in Maybach brand history’.

The Heart of the Beast

The SL 680 boasts the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine as the Mercedes-AMG SL63, delivering a robust 430kW/800Nm. However, what sets this vehicle apart is not what’s under the bonnet, but the distinctive features that rival other premium car makers.

Mercedes-Maybach has equipped the SL 680 with a unique exhaust system and additional sound insulation. This ensures a serene and restful ride, enveloping passengers in a world of tranquillity, even as the vehicle performs at peak power.

A Debut at Pebble Beach

The SL 680 made its debut at Pebble Beach, marking the first time an SL-based Maybach has been showcased. It’s also the inaugural model in the new ‘Monogram Series’.

Driving Performance and Luxury

Like the SL 63, the SL 680 features the 4MATIC variable all-wheel drive system. But true to Maybach style, this ultra-luxury roadster comes dressed in a lavish two-tone paintwork, peppered with chrome accents.

Buyers have the option of choosing between two colour schemes – Red Ambience and White Ambience. Each scheme combines the core colours with an Obsidian Black upper section that covers the bonnet and bootlid. The black soft top, adorned with a Maybach badge pattern, sits in between.

Exterior Elegance

The SL680’s exterior is nothing short of a masterpiece. Rose gold accented headlights, exclusive 21-inch forged wheels, custom bumpers, Maybach badging, and a raised front signet all contribute to its unique appeal.

Luxury Interiors

The interior is just as impressive as the exterior. The Crystal White Exclusive Nappa leather interior, accompanied by silver chrome accents, is truly a sight to behold. Leather finishes extend to the seats, door panels, centre console and area behind the seats. The seat upholstery also showcases a new unique geometric design.

Mercedes-Maybach has also fine-tuned the digital driver display and infotainment screen to play specific start-up animations and display unique styles.

More Than Just a Car

In addition to the SL 680, Maybach is launching a range of matching merchandise, including a leather jacket, sneakers, a scarf, a tote bag, and even a dog bag. Each item features design elements taken directly from the new model line, allowing you to carry a part of the SL 680 wherever you go.

Final Comments

The Maybach SL 680 is set to launch in the US with both colour schemes in the second half of 2025. Whether this model will be sold in Australia remains unclear. What is certain, however, is that the SL 680 is a testament to Maybach’s commitment to blending performance and luxury in a truly unique way.
