Hyundai is gearing up to expand its electric vehicle lineup in Australia with the introduction of the Inster Cross, a more rugged version of its upcoming compact electric SUV. Recent spy shots have revealed the vehicle undergoing testing in South Korea, signaling its imminent arrival in the Australian market.
The Hyundai Inster Cross is a more rugged-looking variant of the standard Inster electric SUV. Spy shots show the vehicle being tested in South Korea, where it may be called the Casper Electric XRT. The Inster Cross is expected to feature styling enhancements rather than significant off-road capability upgrades.
Potential design elements include chunkier tires, new dark alloy wheels, flared wheel arches, and additional cladding. Hyundai Australia has confirmed it will offer all Inster variants, including the Cross, when available.
The standard Inster is set to arrive in Australian showrooms in early 2025. Two battery options will be available: a 42kWh standard-range and a 49kWh long-range version. The Inster will compete with budget-friendly EVs like the MG ZS EV, BYD Dolphin, and GWM Ora.
Pricing is expected to start below $40,000 for the base model. The Inster uses 400-volt charging architecture, allowing for a maximum 120kW charging rate.
With the addition of the Inster Cross to its lineup, Hyundai aims to cater to consumers seeking a more adventurous-looking electric SUV while maintaining the affordability and efficiency of the standard Inster. This move could help Hyundai strengthen its position in the growing electric vehicle market in Australia.
