Roadside assistance around Australia is adjusting to cater to electric vehicles, with the NRMA, RACQ, RAA and RAC all now providing mobile charging in case your vehicle runs out of charge.

Currently the NRMA offers mobile EV charging seven days a week all year round with no extra cost. NRMA Roadside Assistance Patrol Tim Bryant who is trained to attend electric vehicles pointed out the need for the service.

“It’s exciting to be at the forefront of this technology. We are seeing more and more EV drivers call us for assistance so it’s clear the need for this kind of support is increasing,” Bryant emphasized. Moreover NRMA's mobile charging network only caters for the Sydney region and Canberra but it is said that all of NSW will be covered by the network soon.

However mobile charging in South Australia is in its initial stages as earlier this year the RAA launched a Peugeot Patrol E Van for members who run out of charge on their electric vehicles and require assistance in reaching the nearest charging station. CEO of the RAA Nick Reade emphasized the significance of electric vehicles and said they are the "future of motoring." The RAA is leasing the van for six weeks as part of a trial.

RACQ was the first to introduce mobile electric vehicles charging back in 2021 and with electric vehicles hitting 98409 in 2023, its no wonder why mobile charging is needed.
