Geely EX5: Engineered for Performance

The Geely EX5 will feature a 60.22kWh long-range battery pack, offering up to 430 kilometers of range under WLTP testing. This advanced battery technology is designed for enhanced efficiency, durability, and safety, providing peace of mind for Australian EV drivers.

Li Lei, Head of Geely Auto Australia, emphasized the importance of rigorous testing:

“We are proud to bring this next-generation battery technology to the Australian market, ensuring that the EX5 delivers reliable performance in even the harshest conditions.”

Extreme Testing for Maximum Safety

Geely’s Short Blade battery technology has undergone intensive testing, including an industry-first “Six Extremes” evaluation. These tests simulate the toughest real-world conditions:

  • Seawater Corrosion Immersion – Ensures battery safety against exposure to saltwater.
  • Extreme Cold Resistance – Performance verified at temperatures as low as -30°C.
  • High-Frequency Scraping – Tests battery resilience to frequent contact with road debris.
  • 26-Tonne Weight Rolling – Simulates the impact of a fully loaded firetruck.
  • Side Collision Impact – Verifies protection against lateral impacts.
  • Extreme Heat and Fire Exposure – Assesses battery safety under extreme temperatures.

The Short Blade battery has also passed an eight-needle puncture test, confirming its structural integrity in the event of external damage.

Longevity and Durability

Geely’s research confirms that the Short Blade battery packs can endure up to 3,500 charge cycles, equivalent to approximately one million kilometers of driving. This long lifespan ensures that EX5 owners will benefit from sustained performance and reliability.

To enhance safety further, Geely has reinforced the EX5’s chassis and underbody structure, protecting the battery from side impacts and road hazards. The Short Blade battery follows the standard “skateboard” design, optimizing cabin space while maintaining structural integrity.
