Volkswagen has finally confirmed the launch date for its long-awaited electric SUV range in Australia. The ID.4 and ID.5 electric vehicles are set to arrive in March 2025, almost a year later than initially planned.

The company plans to end 2024 with the ID. Buzz launch, followed by the ID.4 and ID.5 before the Everything Electric EV show in March 2025.

The ID.4 and ID.5 will face competition from established rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, as well as upcoming Chinese entrants such as the BYD Sealion 7 and Xpeng G6.Technical specifications for the Australian market are yet to be confirmed, but based on European models, we can expect:

  • Range options up to 520km (WLTP) for the ID.4
  • Fast charging capability, with 5-80% charge in approximately 36 minutes
